The picture is not the machine. That is the rather simple brewer that they use in hotel rooms. I doubt the brewer in development will be much like that one. Still too early to say what the brewer will be like. All we know so far is there is one in the works.
The fox news report on this quoting wall street journal makes it seems like Starbucks plans to be in direct competition with Keurig with this brewer, which is really interesting considering the recent partnership. Ill post that article here as its the one I originally read.

It doesn't look impressive to me. It looks like a pod brewer of sorts. I can't see how it could make specialty drinks either. Don't you think the t-disc technology is superior, what with shooting in one end, swirling around and soaking all the grounds, and going out another? That's why Tassimo makes a good cup of coffee. As far as K-cups, whether it's Keurig or Cuisinart, or Mr. Coffee, it's still the same K-cup technology. At least that's what it seems to me. I don't see people rushing out to buy Starbucks machine, Keurig is more ubiquitous and has more variety than limiting to Starbucks. I'm curious to how this plays out.

I was thinking the same thing. Sell K-cups while their brewer is in development and production, then flood the market with the new brewers. Adios SBux K-cup sales.

They actually inked the deal with courtesy first, before green mountain. But at that point it was only for their hotel brewers.
The other thing here, is kind of a slap in the face to keurig. That they said yes, we will let you sell k cups, but we think we can make a machine that is better. I'm guessing the k cup line will be limited.

my guess is that Starbucks learned a thing or 2 about single-serve brewing during its partnership with Tassimo/Kraft...let's hope that Kraft/Gevalia learned a thing or 2 about COFFEE from Starbucks!

I can't quite figure out how to copy the link from my i phone. But, Starbucks announced that it's patnersips with courtesy will also include a consumer single serve machine which will brew Starbucks seattles best and tazo teas. No announcement of when these will be available.
If one of you savvy people can post a link for me so you can read the announcement yourselves. A little google work should find it pretty quickly.
