why can't Tassimo make a disc like Kehrig did . I am sure this can be done. Sure would be more economical and you could use coffee you prefer.

I have received my Melitta filter. It does seem kind of silly using the Tassimo to brew it as boiling a tea kettle would produce the same results, just a bit slower. However, there is an issue using the Tassimo, water goes straight down into grounds, some grounds remained dry on the periphery or are pushed away and I had to use a spoon to stir it around. This might be avoided if you are pouring the boiling water yourself. If you are using standard grounds, you do have to use about three tablespoons to brew a twelve ounce cup. Also, if you use a Tassimo with the cleaning disc and your cup is a twelve ounce cup, you still have to stop the cleaning on the second round because it might overflow. I do wonder if a finer ground would produce a better result and you won't have to use so much for a single cup. It's still a product handy to have and it is cheap enough ($3) if you find it won't suit you.

Funny, regarding the water projecting straight down leaving dry grounds, that is one of the issues I had read about on Amazon reviews of the My K-cup. That's one thing about the T-disc technology, it certainly soaks through all the grounds and is why the coffee tastes so good compared to a Keurig. All the more reason to have a reusable t-disc!

I've been using my Tassimo brewers for so long, I forget that the Melitta filter makes a pretty good regular cup of coffee, single serve, nothing fancy. Back to basics, not automated, but easy and clean up is just toss the paper filter and rinse the Melitta filter.

The thing to remember when using a Melitta filter is that the coffee should be ground finer than regular drip, since there is no pressure forcing the water through it.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the efficacy of using a Melitta filter with a Tassimo brewer. I can get boiling water faster in the microwave. I never use my bots just for hot water...

Hey, I ran into this video about a week ago and have since ordered one through Bed Bath and Beyond from the store with the shipping waived. I'd never seen one before but apparently they make coffee like this in Germany all the time. Still waiting for its arrival so I'll post how it works out. Pretty much the same concept as a refillable disc but it might be easier clean up. Just a little faster with a Tassimo than boiling water on the stove I suppose.

I am deeply disappointed myself about tassimo not selling starbucks anymore! that was the main reason for us buying this machine as opposed to the Keurig! I am going to try using the service disk on top of the used one, taking the foil out and putting in starbucks. I will see if that works. If not, I do not want to use that melitta thing. That's why I got this machine, i was sick and tired of using filters! The gevalia coffee just doesn't cut it as far as taste is concerned. I do buy their espresso because I have no choice, but their coffee????, YUK!

I don't know about the burnt taste to G's bolds, but I do know the high acidity and bittery taste. Also not pleasing to me. I'd much prefer a full bodied coffee, with little to no acidity or bittery taste, and very smooth.

Try the Carte Noire Voluptuoso Coffee. It's a rich but not acidic coffee. It's a small cup, but quite good. My recommendation is to purchase it from Amazon. B-)

I think with starbucks and seattles best pulling out of the T disk buisness, I may have to look into this seriously. Tassimo's solution of using dark roast gevalia coffee is unacceptable. I've tried all of their darker roasts and they either taste like they burnt the coffee beans, or there's way too much of an acidic taste to it, like someone left it sitting on the warming pad too long. Gevalia and Maxwell house are not "quality coffee" If I wanted to drink cheap tasting coffee I'd buy instant coffee grounds.

Actually, both methods might work nicely with coffee pods.
I'd rather try the melitta cone filter method its seems to be safer [still leary about trying the foil wrapped method]. I'm thinking of maybe trying to cut a used kitamu T-disk bar code to tape over the service disc bar code to vary the temp & amount of fluid water.

I have to say, I'm not a huge proponent of the refillable disc idea. I've even posted on other forums that it is of little interest to me. I am, however, known about the office as a "coffee lover" and I tend to get coffee and coffee related gifts. I just hate giving away (or throwing away) perfectly good, sometimes great, coffee because my machine does not allow for it. 99% of the time I will use the disposable t-discs. This is a once-in-a-while solution and for $5 you can't beat it.

Nice Catch Andy ; ) This one I will try. And its not real expensive; very cost effective. If I can brew my Blue Mountain and Kona, etc. I'd be very happy. There's also a U-tube video of someone using a cleaned out disk covered with foil. I'm a bit skeptical of using that idea for fear it might damage the machine. Any one try this??? But this might work nicely with small coffee pods????
